The “Chorus Boy” and the “Leading Lady”

Peter and Nancy met at the Light Opera of Manhattan, where Nancy was playing the soprano lead and Peter was in the chorus. At the time, Peter was in his early twenties and wasn’t looking for the right person to spend the rest of his life with. In fact, he was enjoying being a single guy in the big city, and during the course of the production dated four different women from the cast.

One of those women was Nancy. On their one dinner date, it seemed that between Peter’s not being serious about finding a long-term relationship and the fact that Nancy was also dating her leading man, it wasn’t going to go anywhere. And it fact, it didn’t. Not then, anyway.

Soon after, Peter left the chorus and got a job in advertising.

Even though he now had a “serious” job in advertising, Peter loved to sing, so from time to time he would appear in light opera productions. Four years after his dinner with Nancy, Peter was playing Grosvenor in Patience at the Village Light Opera and Nancy came to see the show because her good friend Lynne was playing Lady Angela. So, after not seeing each other for four years, Peter and Nancy met again after the performance.

Lynne didn’t approve of the guy Nancy was dating at the time, so she suggested Peter call Nancy and ask her out. He called, they went out on a date, and have been together ever since.

Nancy also left “show business” to pursue a career as a fitness instructor and yoga teacher, and the two of them have now been together for thirty-six years in a marriage in which they definitely have equal billing.
